The children researched which tools early humans used and how these tools helped them to survive. After discovering more about hand axes, scrapers, hammerstones and spears, they then focused in on how versatile the axe was: for chopping firewood, making shelters and for carving meat. In designing their own axe, children considered the most suitable shape, size and material for the axe head and handle. Along with their families, they then learnt how to attach a stone to a stick handle securely, using a lashing knot and clove hitches. Well done, everyone!
