Welcome to our Design Technology blog. Here we will be celebrating the use of Design Technology to create all sorts of ACE things
Year 3 Stone Age Tools
The children researched which tools early humans used and how these tools helped them to survive. After discovering more about hand axes, scrapers, hammerstones and spears, they then focused in on how versatile the axe was: for chopping firewood, making shelters and for carving meat. In designing their own axe, children considered the most suitable shape, size and material for the axe head and handle. Along with their families, they then learnt how to attach a stone to a stick handle securely, using a lashing knot and clove hitches. Well done, everyone!

Young inventors
In EYFS, our youngest inventors immerse themselves in the world of materials, using the Construction areas and DT workshops to create imaginative models and products. Trying out different tools builds fine motor strength: shaping, joining and building in a variety of ways.
The children, who started Reception in September, have shown super creativity. Let’s appreciate the resilience and effort shown in these models.
